About the imagery used on this website

Labour Clears The Way!

The above image was used by the Labour Party in the run up to the January 1910 General Election. At the time, the House of Lords had blocked Lloyd George’s redistributive ‘People’s Budget’. Labour increased its MPs from 29 to 40 in this election.

We have chosen to use this imagery to remind people that this campaign is unfinished business stemming from the earliest days of the Labour Party. While party has veered between abolition and reform of the House of Lords, but it has always stood against the idea of privilege and patronage in the political system.
